OUR HISTORY

Entrepreneurship and passing on knowledge

Since the 17th century
The Boinaud family has deep roots in the heart of Grande Champagne,

premier cru Cognac. The first traces of the Boinaud family in the region date back to this period, when winegrowers were already passionate about their land and keen to make it prosper.

At the end of the 19th century
Charles Boinaud (1892–1965) fully embodies this spirit of attachment

to the land and responsibility towards the region. A winegrower, man of letters, and public figure, he was actively involved in community life and contributed to the development of the Grande Champagne region, affirming the role of the vineyard as the economic and cultural driving force of the region.

In 1946
Michel Boinaud (1925–2012), son of Charles, officially founded the Boinaud Distillery

and ushered in a new era. A visionary and builder, he developed the wine business and, in 1972, made Maison Boinaud the largest distillery in the region with 41 stills.

A man of action and innovation, he also diversified his initiatives in the agricultural sector, venturing into the distribution of solutions for vineyard protection and health, and supporting the creation of an equestrian center, thereby contributing to the local economic and social vitality.

In 1975
Xavier Boinaud, son of Michel,

succeeded him in managing the company and continued to develop the family business. A rigorous manager, he guided Maison Boinaud through a decisive phase of diversification, marked by its entry into the Cognac trade. During this period, Maison Boinaud made several major acquisitions—J. DUPONT (1992), A. DE FUSSIGNY (1993), and Cognac DE LUZE (2006)—thus opening a new chapter in its history. This shift towards trading took place against the backdrop of the “Cognac crisis” following the downturn in the Japanese market, a period during which the Boinaud family chose to invest and prepare for the future rather than suffer the slowdown in the sector.

In 2015
Charles Boinaud, Michel's grandson, takes over as CEO of the family business.

Under his leadership, Maison Boinaud has resolutely committed to a pioneering approach to sustainable development, becoming the first mission-driven company in Cognac, certified B Corp, and opening up new horizons with diversification into French whiskey and the international rollout of its brands.

In 2017
Charles Boinaud founds Boinaud & Co, a wealth management and entrepreneurial holding company

designed to preserve family control over Maison Boinaud and to structure a controlled diversification strategy.

Since 2018, Boinaud & Co has been developing a real estate business driven by a desire to support local economic players and promote sustainable projects that bring vitality to the regions.

In 2021
The group reaches a new milestone

by investing in the hotel and restaurant sector, notably through its stake in the François Premier Hospitality group, which comprises two hotels, a restaurant, and a bar. Through this initiative, the group is actively contributing to the reputation and appeal of the Cognac region.

Today
Boinaud & Co embodies the continuity of a family adventure.

that spans the centuries: preserving, developing, diversifying, and passing on, with respect for people, the land, and the long term.
